Irish Landscape Institute Design Award 2024- Tallaght Public Realm
Irish Landscape Institute (ILI) Design Award 2024- Tallaght Public Realm
South Dublin County Council are proud to announce that our Tallaght Public Realm project has won in the Built Projects- Public Realm/Civil Space category of the 2024 ILI Design awards.
The different parts included in The Tallaght Public Realm project include Innovation Square, School Pedestrian Link, County Hall Pedestrian Link, Chamber Square, Red Rua Civic Space and Mobility Hub Civic Space. The facilities implemented into these locations are multi-functional and have been described as attractive and innovative. They have been designed with community in mind offering locations that are walkable and offer opportunities for social gatherings.
Biodiversity was a primary concern in construction of the Public Realm. Some of the sustainable measures included in the strategy are bulb planting, clipped hedges, and planting of multi-stem trees and grids of flowering cherry trees. This strategy was done as these trees will mature in time, maintaining air quality within the Public Realm. Another lauded aspect of this ecological strategy is the proximity of schools to the Public Realm offering opportunities for education surrounding wildlife and biodiversity.
